Joe Jackson added 15 points and six assists while Geron Johnson had 13 points and 11 boards for Memphis (11-3, 2-1 AAC), which shot 50.9 percent from the field. Chris Crawford scored 12 points and Austin Nichols had 10 as all five starters reached double figures for the Tigers.

Luke Hancock led the way with 20 points off the bench but could not hit a tying 3-point attempt and turned it over down the stretch for Louisville (13-3, 2-1). Russ Smith scored 19 points and Montrezl Harrell chipped in 14 and 11 rebounds for the Cardinals.

Louisville used an 11-3 surge to grab a 61-55 lead with under 5 1/2 minutes left and was holding onto a five-point advantage when Memphis began to make a run less than two minutes later. Jackson found Goodwin and Johnson for dunks on consecutive possessions to kick off a 14-3 run, and Jackson’s free throw after a missed 3-point attempt by Hancock made it a two-possession game as the Tigers closed it out.

Memphis came out strong and led by as much as seven points in the first half before settling for a 36-33 lead at the break. The Tigers went scoreless for over four minutes early in the second half as Louisville went on an 8-0 run to grab a 43-39 edge, and it went back and forth until Memphis‘ finishing kick.
