DePaul 99, Butler 94 (2OT): Cleveland Melvin scored a season-high 30 points as the Blue Demons outlasted the host Bulldogs and ended their 10-game conference losing streak.

Billy Garrett Jr. poured in a career-high 22 while fellow freshman Tommy Hamilton IV added personal bests of 17 points and 12 rebounds for DePaul (9-8, 1-3 Big East). Brandon Young chipped in with 18 points for the Blue Demons, who won for just the eighth time in their last 91 league contests.

Kellen Dunham scored 28 of his 30 points after intermission to pace the Bulldogs (10-5, 0-3), who are winless in conference play through three games for the first time since 2003-04. Kameron Woods posted his fourth double-double with a season-high 17 points and a career-best 14 rebounds

Dunham drained three straight 3-point attempts during an 18-7 second-half run that put the Bulldogs in charge by 12 with just over 13 minutes left. However, DePaul caught fire beyond the arc in the closing minutes and scored the final 11 points of regulation, capped by a jumper from Melvin with about 20 seconds left to send the game into overtime.

Butler, which did not convert a field goal for an eight-minute stretch spanning regulation and the first overtime, ended its drought with 21 seconds left on a jumper from Dunham while Jackson Aldridge sent the game into another extra period on a 16-foot floater as time expired. Melvin took over in the second overtime, scoring half of DePaul’s 12 points, including the go-ahead jumper that broke a 94-all tie with 44 seconds left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: DePaul has won two straight overtime contests after dropping its previous eight. … Butler’s only victory in this series came in the schools’ first meeting during the 1938-39 season. … The Blue Demons notched their first road victory in league play since winning at Providence on Jan. 5, 2013.
