No. 7 Iowa State 87, No. 9 Baylor 72: DeAndre Kane scored a season-high 30 points and the host Cyclones set a program record with their 14th consecutive victory.

Kane, who played three seasons at Marshall before graduating and transferring to Iowa State for his final year, also contributed nine assists, eight rebounds and five steals for the Cyclones (14-0, 2-0 Big 12), who began the day as one of six unbeaten teams in Division I. Melvin Ejim added 18 points and freshman guard Monte Morris scored 13 off the bench to reach double figures in scoring in three straight games for the first time this season.

Brady Heslip and Gary Franklin finished with 15 points apiece for the Bears (12-2, 0-1), who fell to 0-12 against Iowa State in Ames, Iowa. Isaiah Austin added 10 points and 12 rebounds while Cory Jefferson grabbed 10 rebounds, but the team’s leading scorer was limited to seven points.

Baylor led by seven early in the first half and Iowa State led by seven late before the Cyclones entered the break with a 40-38 advantage. Ejim dunked on a lob pass from Kane to extend the lead back to seven with just over 15 1/2 minutes left but was given a technical foul for hanging on the rim.

The Bears quickly trimmed the deficit to four before Iowa State began to pull away again, holding a 63-51 lead at the midway point of the second half and its advantage continued to swell. Baylor, which entered the day fifth in the nation in field-goal percentage (50.4), shot 42.4 percent, including 40 percent in the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: A member of the officiating crew suffered a leg injury during the first half, forcing the game to be played under the watch of two men in the second half. … Kane’s career high is 40 points, scored in a triple-overtime win two years ago against Tulsa in a Conference USA quarterfinal. … F Georges Niang scored nine points and F Dustin Hogue had eight, leaving Iowa State without at least four players in double figures for the first time this season.
