Kenny Chery scored 20 points and Brady Heslip added 19 off the bench to lead the host Bears past the Ragin' Cajuns in the opening round of the Maui Invitational.

Cory Jefferson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for Baylor (3-0), which shot 58.7 percent from the floor. Isaiah Austin had eight points, six rebounds and eight blocked shots.

Elfrid Payton led the way for Louisiana-Lafayette (2-2) with 20 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. Shawn Long chipped in 16 points and eight boards.

Six different Bears scored in a 17-7 run to close the first half, capped by Gary Franklin's 3-pointer with eight seconds left to make it 33-22. The Ragin' Cajuns had six points in a span of 46 seconds to get within five early in the second half before Heslip had four points in a 6-0 burst to push the lead to 49-38 with 12:23 remaining.

Louisiana never got closer than nine points thereafter. Baylor took a 68-51 advantage on a Heslip 3-pointer with 6:16 to go before cruising down the stretch and finishing with its largest lead.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Baylor owns a 7-3 series advantage, winning all four of the meetings on its home court. ... Led by Austin, the Bears finished with 12 blocked shots, compared to one for the Ragin' Cajuns. ... Payton and Baylor F Taurean Prince were whistled for double technicals with 9:06 remaining.
