Creighton 83, Saint Joseph’s 79: Doug McDermott scored 20 points and converted the go-ahead three-point play with 4.9 seconds remaining to give the visiting Bluejays a dramatic victory over the Hawks.

McDermott, a two-time First Team All-American and the nation’s leading returning scorer, was 7-of-14 from the field despite being double-teamed throughout the game. Ethan Wragge scored 21 points on seven 3-pointers for Creighton (3-0), which averaged more than 100 points over its first two games as a member of the Big East.

Freshman DeAndre Bembry scored 20 points for Saint Joseph’s (2-1), which hit 14-of-31 3-point attempts. Chris Wilson made six to have 18 points, and Langston Galloway had two among his 14.

The Bluejays took their first lead since their opening possession of the game with 16:16 remaining in the second half and went ahead as much as eight before the Hawks started chipping away. Wilson’s 3-pointer with 1:09 left made it a one-point game and Ronald Roberts Jr. hit two free throws with 27.5 seconds remaining to give Saint Joseph’s a 79-78 lead before McDermott’s heroics.

Saint Joseph’s went 6-of-12 from 3-pointer range in the first half and led by as much as 13 before settling for a 45-40 advantage at the break. Galloway, Roberts and Wilson scored nine points apiece for the Hawks on a combined 8-of-14 shooting, while Wragge hit four 3-pointers to keep the Bluejays close.
