Brigham Young 79, Southern Mississippi 62: Senior guard Brock Zylstra scored a season-high 23 points, including a season-best five 3-pointers in the first half, and grabbed 10 rebounds as the visiting Cougars cruised to the National Invitation Tournament quarterfinal victory at Hattiesburg, Miss.

Tyler Haws finished with a game-high 25 points, Matt Carlino had 15 points and nine assists and Brandon Davies added 12 points and 13 rebounds for third-seeded Brigham Young (24-11). The Cougars, who were 11-of-27 from 3-point range, will face Baylor in the NIT semifinals Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

Forward Daveon Boardingham scored 18 points and Jerrold Brooks added 13 points for top-seeded Southern Mississippi (27-10), which saw its school-record 30-game non-conference home win streak snapped.

Southern Miss started quickly, jumping out to a 5-0 lead in the first 50 seconds. But the 6-6 Zylstra began shooting holes in the Golden Eagles' matchup zone, connecting on five 3-pointers in a span of 12 minutes, the final one resulting in a four-point play and a 30-20 Cougars lead.

Southern Miss closed to within 32-29 on a Cedric Jenkins layup with 1:50 left in the half, but BYU answered with an 8-0 run to lead 40-29 at halftime. The Cougars quickly built the lead to 21 points, 56-35, on a jumper by Davies with 14:22 to go. The Golden Eagles never got closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

GAME NOTEBOOK: BYU finished with 24 assists on its 26 field goals. ... Haws, who led the West Coast Conference in scoring with a 20.6 average, has scored 20 or more points in 24 games this season. ... The double-double was the 24th of Davies' career and his 11th this season.
