Vanderbilt 73, Texas-El Paso 49: Kedren Johnson scored 17 points and Rod Odom added 16 as the Commodores rolled in the seventh-place game of the Old Spice Classic at Lake Buena Vista, Fla.

The Commodores (2-3) seized control with a 16-0 run in the first half after the game was tied at 12-12. They were never seriously challenged from there to snap a three-game losing streak.

Odom was 3-of-17 from the field in the first two games of the tournament before draining 5-of-11 against the Miners. Johnson had four points in the last game after scoring 28 in the first round of the eight-team event. Kyle Fuller chipped in with 14 points and five assists for Vanderbilt.

John Bohannon scored 11 points and Cedrick Lang contributed 10 for the Miners (1-4), who have dropped four straight.

Vanderbilt shot 52 percent and forced 12 of UTEP’s 19 turnovers to take a 33-17 lead at halftime. The 33 points matched the Commodores’ entire total in the loss to Marist on Friday.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Vanderbilt had 15 steals and UTEP just two. … The Miners have scored less than 70 points in their first five games. … The Commodores host Villanova next Saturday and New Mexico State visits UTEP on Wednesday.
