Worrel Clahar scored a career-high 19 points, including a key three-point play late, as the host Blue Demons snapped a nine-game losing streak.

Clahar drove the length of the court, scored and was fouled with 1:37 to go. He hit the free throw to give DePaul (11-14, 2-10 Big East) a 70-66 lead, helping the Blue Demons win for the first time since Jan. 5.

Rutgers (13-11, 4-9) lost leading scorer Eli Carter to a right knee injury in the second half. Carter, who averages 15.4 points, landed awkwardly on his right leg, was helped off the court and did not return.

With Rutgers down 60-50 with seven minutes left, Myles Mack shot the Scarlet Knights back into the game. He scored 16 consecutive Rutgers points, giving his team a brief 66-64 advantage with 2:42 remaining.

Mack finished with a career-high 28 points for the Scarlet Knights, scoring 18 in the second half.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Rutgers has lost seven of its past eight. … DePaul’s Brandon Young and Cleveland Melvin, seventh and eighth respectively in the Big East in scoring, combined for 31 points (16 by Young, 15 by Melvin). … Four of the Blue Demons’ final six games are against ranked teams.
