Purdue 58, Penn State 49: Freshman Ronnie Johnson scored a career-high 16 points and the visiting Boilermakers shook off a rough shooting night to keep the Nittany Lions winless in Big Ten play.

Purdue (12-11, 5-5 Big Ten) finished 0-for-10 from 3-point range, but the Boilermakers attacked the basket repeatedly during a 16-4 run that turned a game tied at 33 into a 49-37 lead with 7:57 remaining.

Penn State (8-14, 0-10) led by as many as nine in the first half but lost its 10th consecutive game. D.J. Newbill led the Nittany Lions with 17 points.

Freshman A.J. Hammons added 15 points, 12 rebounds and three blocked shots for Purdue, which snapped a two-game losing streak. Hammons finished 11-for-12 from the line, but Johnson shot 2-for-8.

Penn State shot 30.6 percent from the field and hit 2 of 20 attempts from 3-point range.

GAME NOTEBOOK
: Purdue beat the Nittany Lions for the 10th time in the past 12 meetings. … Penn State has not won since beating Duquesne on Dec. 29. … The Boilermakers were held scoreless from 3-point range for the second time this season. Purdue did not make a 3-pointer against Xavier on Dec. 1, ending a streak of 659 consecutive games with a 3-pointer dating to Feb. 22, 1992.
