No. 18 North Carolina State 91, North Carolina 83: Richard Howell, C.J. Leslie and Lorenzo Brown each recorded double-doubles as the Wolfpack moved to 12-0 at home and snapped a 13-game losing streak against the Tar Heels.

Howell had 16 points and 14 rebounds while Leslie added 17 points and 10 rebounds and Brown tallied 20 points and 11 assists for North Carolina State (16-4, 5-2 ACC).

P.J. Hairston came on late to score 19 points for North Carolina (13-6, 3-3) while James Michael McAdoo overcame early foul trouble to finish with 13 points and 11 rebounds.

Leslie drew two fouls on McAdoo in the first 1:58 of the contest and the Wolfpack quickly established a 22-10 lead at the 11:47 mark of the opening half. McAdoo returned to spark an 8-0 run, but North Carolina State answered with 23 of the next 27 points to build a 45-22 advantage late in the first half.

The Wolfpack stretched the lead to 28 points with 13:17 remaining, but the Tar Heels hit 12 of their next 13 shots to cut the deficit to nine. Although a layup by Leslie and four-point play by Scott Wood temporarily halted the Tar Heels’ surge, North Carolina staged one final rally with nine unanswered points over a 56-second stretch late to climb to within 85-80 before North Carolina State sank six free throws to hold on for the victory.

GAME NOTEBOOK: With its win on Saturday, North Carolina State defeated Duke and North Carolina in the same season for the first time since 2002-03. … The Wolfpack outscored the Tar Heels in transition 20-0 in the first half and 39-19 for the game. … Howell posted his 12th double-double of the season and notched his eighth straight game with at least 11 rebounds.
