No. 17 New Mexico 66, Colorado State 61: Tony Snell scored 23 points as the host Lobos held on to win and take a two-game lead in the Mountain West Conference.

Chad Adams contributed 13 points and a team-high six rebounds for New Mexico (17-2, 4-0 MWC), which led by 22 points with 11:59 remaining before the Rams cut the deficit to three with eight seconds left.

Wes Eikmeier scored 20 points to lead Colorado State (15-4, 2-2), making 4-of-6 from 3-point range to improve to 13-for-23 over his last five games. Colton Iverson scored 15 points and matched his career high with 14 rebounds and Dorian Green scored 14 for the Rams.

The Lobos scored the last eight points of the first half to take a 35-25 lead. They eventually stretched the advantage to 22 but Colorado State got back within single digits as the Lobos went more than seven minutes without a field goal.

The Rams cut the deficit to six with 40 seconds remaining and then three after Eikmeier stole an inbounds pass and sank a 3-pointer with 8.2 seconds left, but Snell made two free throws to clinch the victory.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Colorado State senior F Greg Smith, the team’s third-leading scorer (11.6), fouled out with 10:50 left and the Rams trailing by 18. He finished with seven points. … The Rams shot 13-for-23 from the free-throw line; New Mexico was 21-for-26. … New Mexico was outrebounded 42-28.
