Northwestern 70, Penn State 54: Dave Sobolewski led four players in double figures with 18 points to lead the Wildcats past the host Nittany Lions.

Sobolewski hit 7-of-14 from the floor and 3-of-6 from the 3-point line. Jared Swopshire added 17 points and Reggie Hearn had 14 for the Wildcats (10-6, 1-2 Big Ten).

D.J. Newbill had a game-high 20 points and Jermaine Marshall added 13 for the Nittany Lions (8-7, 0-3). The starting guards combined for four points in the first half before scoring 29 of Penn State's 36 second-half points.

Penn State never threatened after Northwestern outscored the Nittany Lions 25-6 during the final 12 minutes of the first half and led 33-18 at the break. The Wildcats hit four 3-pointers during the run and held Penn State scoreless for a six-minute stretch.

Hearn had a steal and layup for a 27-16 lead with 3:58 left in the first half and combined with Kale Abrahamson for back-to-back 3-pointers to push the lead to 17 three minutes later.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Penn State has been held to 18, 27 and 18 first-half points in its three Big Ten losses. ... It was the sixth time Northwestern held an opponent under 20 points in the first half. ... Newbill recorded his fifth 20-point game of the season.
