Brigham Young 97, Virginia Tech 71: Sophomore Tyler Haws scored a career-high 42 points - the seventh-highest total in BYU history - as the Cougars blew out the Hokies in Salt Lake City.
Brandon Davies added 17 points and Josh Sharp scored 10 for BYU, which has won five of six. The Cougars scored the game's first nine points and never trailed.
Jarell Eddie scored 17 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Virginia Tech (9-4), which has lost four of six since a 7-0 start. Robert Brown added 13 points, and national scoring leader Erick Green was held to a season-low 12 points on 4-of-17 shooting.
The Cougars (10-4) led 56-31 at halftime and pushed the margin as wide as 32 in the second half before coasting to the finish.
Haws, who finished 14-for-25 from the field and 6-of-8 from 3-point range, nearly outscored the Hokies in the first half with 29 points. His previous career high was 32 against Cal State-Northridge.
GAME NOTEBOOK: BYU has won all three meetings between the teams. … Davies has scored in double digits in all 14 games. … The Hokies shot just 29.4 percent in the first half and 37.5 percent for the game, including 2-of-20 from 3-point range.
