Kansas State 65, George Washington 62: Angel Rodriguez scored 14 of his 17 points in the second half and the visiting Wildcats overcame their worst shooting performance of the season.

Rodriguez had his second-highest scoring output of the season despite shooting 6-of-18. He scored 10 points in the final 8:30, including a key jumper with 63 seconds remaining that gave Kansas State (7-1) a 63-60 edge.

Rodney McGruder added 15 points but had just one basket in the second half, a 3-pointer with 4:28 remaining that briefly gave the Wildcats a two-point lead. He added 11 rebounds for his first double-double of the season.

Dwayne Smith led the Colonials (4-5) with 14 points but missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer that would have forced overtime. Isaiah Armwood and Lasan Kromah added 12 apiece.

Kansas State shot a season-low 35.7 percent but still had a seven-point lead midway through the second half. The Colonials responded with an 11-2 run and had a slim 50-48 edge on Smith's three-point play with nine minutes remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: McGruder is a Washington D.C. native and, according to Kansas State, had about 65 family and friends in the crowd. ... F Thomas Gipson remained in the Wildcats' starting lineup and grabbed 12 rebounds. He had his first career double-double in last season's victory over George Washington. ... Armwood finished with seven blocks, giving him four games with at least five rejections this season.
