No. 7 Ohio State 89, Long Beach State 55: Deshaun Thomas scored 18 points and the host Buckeyes breezed past the overmatched 49ers.

LaQuinton Ross had 16 points and nine rebounds and Lenzelle Smith Jr. added 14 and nine to help Ohio State (6-1) dominate the backboards by a 45-31 margin.

Sam Thompson was also in double figures with 13 points in the second of an eight-game homestand for the Buckeyes, who were playing for the first time in a week.

Dan Jennings scored a team-high 16 points and James Ennis added 12 for Long Beach State (3-6), which lost to its second top-10 opponent in three days and suffered its fourth defeat to a ranked team this season.

Ross scored six straight points in an 11-0 run to help Ohio State take a 29-15 lead at halftime. The Buckeyes opened the second half with a 17-3 burst to open a 22-point lead and eventually pushed it to as many as 42 points.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Ohio State won its 36th consecutive home game against a non-conference opponent. ... Long Beach State has played a killer early-season schedule, losing to North Carolina and Arizona before getting routed at Syracuse on Thursday night. ... Buckeyes PG Aaron Craft needed 10 stitches for a cut sustained over his eye while battling for a rebound.
