Purdue 72, Lamar 39: Terone Johnson recorded a game-high 16 points and added seven rebounds as the Boilermakers cruised past the visiting Cardinals.

Freshman A.J. Hammons chipped in with 13 points and Anthony Johnson had 11 for Purdue (4-4), which has won three of its last four games. The Boilermakers dominated on the backboards and scored 38 points in the paint.

Stan Brown recorded 14 points and nine rebounds for Lamar (1-7), which has yet to play at its home this season. The 39 points is a season low for the Cardinals.

Lamar was within 11-8 early on before Purdue scored eight straight points to take control en route to a 36-17 halftime lead. Terone Johnson and Hammons each contributed nine points and four rebounds in the opening 20 minutes for the Boilermakers, who pushed the ball inside consistently.

Purdue was 0-of-17 from 3-point range in its 63-57 loss to Xavier on Saturday. The Boilermakers rebounded to make 3-of-5 in the first half and 4-of-11 overall against the Cardinals.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Twelve players scored for Purdue and six had at least five rebounds. … The Cardinals dropped to 1-6 all time against the Big Ten and 0-2 against Purdue. Lamar’s only victory was in 1987 against Northwestern. … Coaches Pat Knight of Lamar and Matt Painter of Purdue played on the same AAU team growing up.
