Florida Gulf Coast University 63, Miami 51: Sherwood Brown and Eric McKnight pitched in 14 points apiece and the host Eagles never trailed after the 7:51 mark of the first half in a stunning upset over the Hurricanes.

Florida Gulf Coast overcame an early 15-5 deficit for the historic win in its home opener. Brown paced the Eagles (1-1) with 10 first half points during a dominant 23-2 run on the way to a 32-25 halftime lead.

Shane Larkin led the Miami offense with 14 points and Kenny Kadji pitched in 13 but the Hurricanes (1-1) were unsteady throughout, shooting less than 30 percent from the floor (16-for-55).

Miami jumped out to a 14-7 second half start and rallied to tie the game at 39-39 on a jumper from Larkin 6:31 in. The Eagles never ceded the lead, however, and the closest the Hurricanes would get down the stretch would be a five-point deficit with 7:08 to play.

Brown added seven rebounds for FGCU, which scored 22 points off of 17 Miami turnovers.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Florida Gulf Coast is now 1-3 against Miami and 1-4 against teams from the ACC... The Hurricanes also struggled against another Atlantic Sun Conference squad in their opener, ultimately withstanding a late challenge from Stetson... The Eagles set an Alico Arena attendance record with a crowd of 4,552.
