Maryland 83, Lafayette 74: Alex Len led five players in double figures with 16 points as the host Terrapins held off the 3-point shooting Leopards.

James Padgett recorded 14 points, while Nick Faust had 13, Charles Mitchell 12 and Dezmine Wells 11 for Maryland (3-1), which outscored Lafayette 50-12 in the paint. Lafayette made 15 from 3-point range for the second consecutive game.

Lafayette’s leading scorer Dan Trist, a 6-9 forward from Australia, missed his third straight game with an ankle injury. Seth Hinrichs scored 20 points and connected on six 3-pointers and Joey Ptasinski had four 3-pointers and 14 points for the Leopards (1-4), who were playing their third game in five days.

The Leopards were within one with 5 minutes left in the first half before the Terrapins scored 11 of the last 13 points for a 40-30 halftime lead. Padgett scored nine points in the first half and Maryland had a 25-15 edge on the backboards.

Lafayette cut a 19-point Maryland lead to as low as eight, but could not get closer in the final minutes. A fast-break dunk by Len sealed it with 55 seconds left.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Faust, a sophomore guard, matched his career high with eight rebounds. … Trist was replaced in the starting lineup by another Australian in Nathaniel Musters, who had two points. … Maryland is 198-38 at home since 1998-99.
