Minnesota 70, La Salle 61: Rodney Williams scored a game-high 21 points to lead the visiting Golden Gophers in the first round of the NIT.

Austin Hollins scored 16 points and Andre Hollins added 13 for the Golden Gophers (20-14), who play at Miami in the second round.

The Gophers, who shot 51.9 percent from the field, won on the road for the first time since Feb. 5 when they prevailed at Nebraska.

Earl Pettis scored 19 points and Ramon Galloway had 13 for La Salle (21-13), which was making its first postseason appearance since 1991.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The win was the 100th at Minnesota for coach Tubby Smith. ... Minnesota is making its 14th NIT appearance and played on the road in the first round for only the second time. ... Galloway, a transfer from South Carolina, has 1,003 career points.
