Cincinnati 72, No. 14 Georgetown 70 (2OT): Yancy Gates led the way with 23 points and Cashmere Wright hit the game-winner in double overtime as the Bearcats advanced to the semifinals at the Big East tournament.

No. 4 seed Cincinnati (23-8) had the ball with less than 25 seconds left in the second overtime and worked it around the perimeter to Wright. The junior guard started at the top of the key and drove the lane, throwing up a floater that banked in with nine seconds left.

The Bearcats will face top seed Syracuse on Friday.

Henry Sims, who collected 22 points and 15 rebounds for the fifth-seeded Hoyas (23-8), missed a 3-point attempt at the buzzer.

Georgetown led by as much as 49-38 midway through the second half but went cold the rest of the way, managing only two field goals in the final 10:38.

The Bearcats turned to Gates, who scored 10 straight points, as they crept back into the game and grabbed the lead.

The Hoyas, trailing by two at the end of regulation, elected to go for the tie, and Otto Porter’s short jumper hit every part of the rim and glanced off the backboard before dropping through to force the first overtime.

The same thing happened at the end of that frame, with Dion Dixon splitting a pair of free throws and opening the door for Sims to bank home a layup as time expired.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
