Evan Roquemore hit six free throws in the final minute as Santa Clara pulled off a stunning 65-64 win over Villanova in the third-place game of the 76 Classic on Sunday in Anaheim, Calif.

Roqeumore scored eight of his 15 points at the line. Santa Clara’s Raymond Cowels III led all scorers with 20 points, while Kevin Foster contributed 13.

The Wildcats (4-2) collapsed in the final four minutes. Coming out of the final media timeout, Darrun Hilliard made a 3-pointer to stake Villanova to a 64-55 lead–its largest advantage of the game–with 3:35 to play. . However, Villanova would not score again.

Meanwhile, Santa Clara (4-2) got within 64-61 on Yannick Atanga’s dunk, a jumper by Cowels and two free throws by Roquemore with 58 seconds to go.

A strategic blunder by Villanova helped Santa Clara stage the comeback. With eight seconds left, Roquemore was fouled by Villanova, which thought it had one foul left before putting the Broncos in the bonus. Instead, it put the Santa Clara sophomore on the line. He made both those shots to pull Santa Clara within 64-63, then hit the game-tying and game-winning free throws with 4.3 seconds to go.

Villanova had one more chance but Maalik Wayns’ attempt at a last-second 3 fell off the mark. Mouphtaou Yarou led the Wildcats with 19 points. Wayns and Cheek scored 10 apiece.
