IOWA 62, NEBRASKA 53: Matt Gatens overcame a slow first half to finish with 16 points as the Hawkeyes ended a six-game road losing streak against the offensively challenged Cornhuskers.

Roy Devyn Marble and Bryce Cartwright each added 11 points for Iowa (16-14, 8-9 Big Ten), which has won three of its last four contests and picked up its first victory away from home since Jan. 4.

Gatens, who averaged 26.5 points over his last four contests, managed one field goal on four attempts in the first half as Iowa crawled to a 23-19 halftime advantage.

Nebraska (12-16, 4-13) continued to pester the Hawkeyes early in the second half, trailing just 28-27 with over 15 minutes remaining. But Gatens and Marble combined to hit four 3-pointers that sparked a furious 18-5 run over the next five minutes as Iowa hit seven consecutive shots.

The Cornhuskers, the conference’s lowest-scoring team, could get no closer than seven points the rest of the way as leading scorer Bo Spencer sat for long stretches late to rest the ankle injury that sidelined him for the second half of Saturday’s loss to Michigan State.

Spencer finished 3 of 14 from the field and scored eight points.

Brandon Ubel scored a career-high 17 points to lead the Cornhuskers, who have dropped seven of eight.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Nebraska made 11 free throws, four more than it had attempted over the last two games combined. … The Cornhuskers were held to less than 60 points for the tenth time in Big Ten play. … Iowa’s eight conference victories are one short of matching its highest total since the 2006-07 season. The Hawkeyes will close out their regular season on Saturday at home against Northwestern.
