TEXAS 72, OKLAHOMA 64: Freshman Sheldon McClellan scored a career-high 24 points, and the Longhorns overcame a big early deficit to defeat the visiting Sooners.

Texas (19-11, 9-8 Big 12) kept its hopes alive of making a 14th straight NCAA Tournament appearance. The Longhorns are still lacking marquee victories, but they have a final chance for one of those in the regular season finale at Kansas.

J’Covan Brown, the Big 12’s leading scorer, added 22 points for the Longhorns, who fell behind by 12 points in the first half and didn’t take their first lead until about the six-minute mark in the second half.

Romero Osby had 14 points to lead Oklahoma (14-15, 4-13 Big 12), which lost for the eighth time in the past nine games.

The Sooners jumped out to a 23-11 lead in the first 10 minutes and were up 37-33 at halftime, but the Longhorns battled all the way back. Texas took a 62-60 lead with 5:40 left after corner 3-pointers on back-to-back-to-back possessions by Brown, McClellan and then Brown again.

Later, the Longhorns extended their lead to 68-62 with 2½ minutes remaining when Brown scored on a driving layup, and then Myck Kabongo stole the inbounds pass and flipped to McClellan for a dunk.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Oklahoma shot 53 percent in the first half. … Texas has won six straight meetings in this series. … Brown scored 14 of his points in the second half.
