AIR FORCE 58, SAN DIEGO STATE 56:
Michael Lyons scored 27 points, including six three-pointers, and host Air Force beat 15th-ranked San Diego State for its biggest upset in program history.

Lyons hit three three-pointers in a three-minute span late in the game to give Air Force (13-11, 3-7 Mountain West) its first win over a ranked opponent since the Falcons beat 21st-ranked UTEP in 1992.

Air Force won for just the second time in 76 games against a ranked opponent, while San Diego State (20-6, 6-4 Mountain West) has lost three straight games for the first time in four years.

Playing without injured leading scorer and rebounder Jamaal Franklin, San Diego State made just 18-of-52 (34.6 percent) from the field and three-of-16 (18.8 percent) from three-point range.

Trailing by seven with two minutes to go, the Aztecs closed the gap to one with 20 seconds left on Tim Shelton’s layup. After Todd Fletcher made one of two free throws, the Aztecs’ Xavier Thames missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Chase Tapley had 17 points and nine boards for San Diego State, which entered the game tied for second place in the Mountain West.

After Garrett Green scored with 18:17 left in the second half, the Aztecs went the next 11 minutes without a field goal. The loss snapped the Aztecs’ eight-game winning streak against the Falcons, who won despite being outrebounded 47-24.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Green grabbed 10 rebounds before leaving the game early in the second half with a right ankle injury… The Falcons improved to 2-1 under interim coach Dave Pilipovich, who took over when Jeff Reynolds was fired last week… The game was delayed briefly at the start of the second half when game officials were forced to install temporary shot clocks… Lyons is 16-of-24 from three-point range in his last three games... The Aztecs lost to an unranked opponent for just the third time in their last 63 games.
