ARKANSAS 76, SOUTH CAROLINA 65: Freshman B.J. Young enjoyed his second-best scoring game of the season as the Razorbacks used suffocating defense to remain undefeated at Bud Walton Arena this season.

Young finished with 27 points – one short of his career high – for Arkansas (17-8, 5-5 SEC), which improved to 17-0 at home this season, becoming the first team in school history to post that many home wins.

After South Carolina (9-15, 1-9) tied the game at 27 with 4:07 left before the break, Young scored five points to ignite a half-ending 11-0 run. By the time the Gamecocks scored again at the 16:02 mark of the second half, the Razorbacks held a commanding 44-29 advantage.

Arkansas expanded its lead to as many as 23 points in the second half, but made things interesting late. The Razorbacks turned the ball over on five straight possessions, which allowed South Carolina to score 16 unanswered points.

But the Razorbacks, who recorded 13 steals and forced 21 turnovers, hit consecutive layups to end the run and secure the win.

Damontre Harris scored 12 points to lead the Gamecocks, who fell to 1-7 on the road this season and have dropped nine of their last 10 contests.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
Freshman Hunter Mickelson recorded two blocked shots to give him 62 for the season, which allowed him to surpass Oliver Miller for the most by a first-year Razorback … South Carolina was held scoreless over a 8:05 stretch spanning across the first and second halves. During that cold spell, the Gamecocks attempted just five shots and committed 11 turnovers.
