NORTHWESTERN 83, IOWA 64: Northwestern bolstered its postseason hopes with a convincing home win over Iowa, riding a torrid shooting effort that included 13 3-point baskets.

The Wildcats (15-8,5-6 Big Ten), who are seeking their first-ever NCAA Tournament berth this season, took control late in the first half with a 14-4 run that stretched their lead to 38-27 with 46 seconds remaining before the break. John Shurna keyed the rally with eight of his 17 points, including a pair of makes from long range.

Northwestern was outrebounded, 29-21, but buried the Hawkeyes by shooting 56 percent from the floor overall and 52 percent from beyond the arc. All five starters scored in double figures for the Wildcats, led by Dave Sobolewski's 23 points.

Iowa (13-12, 5-7) succumbed despite shooting a solid 52 percent (23 of 44) from the field and hitting 7-of-14 3-pointers. Turnovers made a big difference — the Hawkeyes finished with 18 giveaways, while the Wildcats committed just seven turnovers,two of those coming in the final 61 seconds of garbage time, and assisted on 22of their 27 field goals.

Aaron White paced Iowa with 17 points and 12 rebounds in the loss.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Northwestern has won the last four meetings between thetwo schools and five of the last six ... The Wildcats face back-to-back road tests next week at Purdue (Feb. 12) and No. 23 Indiana (Feb. 15) ... Iowa has aweek off before traveling to Penn State on Feb. 16 ... The Hawkeyes and Wildcats will face off again in the last game of the regular season, a March 3 showdown in Iowa City.
