NOTRE DAME 55, WEST VIRGINIA 51: Jack Cooley had 21 points and 12 rebounds, and timely outside shooting fueled a late 11-0 run that lifted the Fighting Irish to a critical Big East road victory.

Notre Dame (16-8, 8-3) had made only 2 of 18 from 3-point range before Eric Atkins hit one from deep to tie the game at 45 with 2:34 remaining. Jerian Grant followed with a steal and another 3-pointer to put the Fighting Irish on top at the 1:52 mark, and Scott Martin capped the final surge with a third make from behind the arc in the final minute to ice it.

West Virginia (16-9, 6-6) was also frigid from outside for much of the game, missing 14 of 16 3-pointers. The Mountaineers committed only three turnovers but never got into an offensive rhythm, finishing 1 for 3 from the foul line and shooting 24 percent (7 of 29) from the field in the first half.

Big East scoring and rebounding leader Kevin Jones finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds for West Virginia, but point guard Truck Bryant, who came in averaging 17.6 points after a 32-point outburst Sunday against Providence, was held scoreless.

GAME NOTEBOOK:
West Virginia didn't score for a stretch of 7:01 in the first half, helping Notre Dame take a 26-16 lead into the break. ... Jones fell short in his bid to tie the school record for consecutive 20-point games (nine), a mark shared by Jerry West and Hot Rod Hundley.
