Rodney McGruder and Angel Rodriguez each had a team-high 14 points as Kansas State defeated Oklahoma State 66-58 Saturday to earn a rare victory at Gallagher-Iba Arena.

Jamar Samuels added 12 points and 12 rebounds for the Wildcats (14-4, 3-3 Big 12), who won at the famed arena for the first time since 1993, a span of 11 games.

Coming in, the Wildcats were so superstitious about their bad luck that they decided to stay in their third different hotel in as many trips under head coach Frank Martin.

Kansas State has come out flat in previous games in Stillwater, including in last year’s 76-62 loss, when it shot just 35 percent. But that wasn’t the case this time around, as the Wildcats took a 31-24 lead at the half before taking the Cowboys completely out of rhythm early in the second half.

Oklahoma State (9-10, 2-4 Big 12) didn’t score its first second-half basket until Markel Brown converted a three-point play with 8:57 left. However, the Wildcats had already built their lead, as the basket cut the Cowboys’ deficit to just 46-36.

Keiton Page, who had a team-high 17 points, pulled Oklahoma State within 59-56 with 2:01 left, but the Wildcats responded with a 7-0 run — all at the free-throw line — to close out the game.

Brown finished with 14 points for Oklahoma State, which shot 34 percent and committed 16 turnovers. The Cowboys went 0-for-7 from 3-point range in the first half and finished just 1-of-16 on long-range attempts.

Kansas State held a decisive 49-27 advantage on the boards, despite being without forward Jordan Henriquez, who was suspended earlier this week for conduct detrimental to the team.
