Lorenzo Brown scored 24 points and Richard Howell added 17 Thursday in North Carolina State’s 87-81 win over Campbell at Reynolds Coliseum.

N.C. State won its third consecutive game and improved to 9-4, while Campbell (8-6) dropped its fifth consecutive game and fell to 1-30 all-time against ACC teams (the only victory coming against N.C. State in December, 1993).

The game was tied at 56-56 before N.C. State took the lead for good on a pair of free throws by Brown. That was part of a game-long trend for the Wolfpack, who hit 28-of-31 free throws, including 12 straight at one point in the second half.

Campbell (8-6) got to within 66-63 when Darren White, who had a game-high 25 points, hit two free throws with 9:02 left, but N.C. State got some separation when Brown and Alex Johnson scored all the points during a 13-2 spurt that made it 79-65.

Both teams shot the ball well in the first half and went into the locker room tied at 41-41. Campbell, which came into the game one of the highest-scoring teams in the country, took its biggest lead of the half at 18-13 when Anthony Horton capped a 7-0 run with a 3-pointer.

N.C. State went up by as many as five when Howell got two of his 12 first-half points on a pair of free throws at the 3:30 mark. The Camels got another 3-pointer, this time from Lorne Merthie, one of three in the first half for the senior guard, to pull back ahead 41-39 with a minute left until halftime.
