Seth Hinrichs hit four 3-pointers and finished with 14 points as Lafayette upset host Penn State 61-57 on Wednesday.

Jim Mower also scored 14 points while Nick Petkovich, who matched Hinrichs’ effort behind the arc, added 13 points and eight rebounds as the Leopards (4-5) ended a three-game slide.

Lafayette, playing its third consecutive game against an NCAA Tournament team, appeared to be outclassed early on as it quickly fell behind 7-0 within the first two minutes of the game.

However, the Leopards scored 24 of the next 33 points to grab an eight-point advantage.

Although Penn State (6-4) moved to within two points on two occasions late in the game, it could never regain the lead, thanks to a Lafayette defense that shut down junior guard Tim Frazier - the Big Ten’s leading scorer - and held the Nittany Lions to 32.8 percent shooting from the field.

Frazier missed all 12 of his field goal attempts and finished with a season-low three points, 16 below his average. He had nine assists.

Guard Jermaine Marshall finished with 20 points and a career-high nine rebounds for Penn State, which lost for the fourth time in 16 all-time meetings despite grabbing 18 offensive boards and outrebounding the Leopards 44-24.
