Doug McDermott scored 17 of his 24 points in the second half as No. 22 Creighton pulled away from visiting Nebraska, 76-66.

McDermott added 12 rebounds to become the first Creighton player to record three straight double-doubles since Nate King in 1993-94.

In large part because of McDermott’s efforts, the Bluejays (7-0) won for the 10th time in 13 games in this in-state series and overcame a career-high 29 points from LSU transfer Bo Spencer.

Trailing 46-45, Nebraska (4-3) suffered a meltdown following an offensive rebound by Creighton’s Grant Gibbs when Toney McCray protested a foul call on the play and was charged with a technical.

Moments later, Huskers head coach Doc Sadler was hit with one as well, allowing Creighton to take six consecutive free throws – and make five – for a six-point lead. After McDermott converted a three-point play two possessions later, the Bluejays had a commanding 54-45 advantage.

Nebraska could not rebound from the onslaught as Creighton stretched the lead to as many as 14 in the final minute.
