Ty Nurse scored 14 points to lead an incredible shooting effort as Texas Tech defeated visiting Stephen F. Austin, 66-54, on Sunday at United Spirit Arena.

Texas Tech (3-0) shot a blistering 62.9 percent from the field, the highest mark for the team since December 10, 2005, against Texas-Pan American.

Jaye Crockett added 13 points and seven rebounds for Texas Tech.

In a bizarre first half, the Red Raiders shot 82.4 percent (14 of 17) to build a 37-23 halftime lead, but cost themselves a chance to run away from the Lumberjacks as they turned the ball over 12 times before the break.

The torrid shooting stretch was even more out of character for the Lumberjacks (1-2), who had heldtheir first two opponents to 40.7 percent shooting from the field and led the country in scoring defense last season.

Texas Tech cooled off considerably in the second half and could not build off its early 17-point second-half lead, allowing Stephen F. Austin to trim the lead to single digits with just over two minutes remaining.

However, the Lumberjacks squandered multiple opportunities late and could not get any closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Antonio Bostic scored 10 points and was the only Lumberjack to finish in double digits.
