Klay Thompson scored four of his 17 points in overtime and host Washington State advanced to the semifinals of the NIT with a 69-66 victory over Northwestern on Wednesday.

Second-seeded Washington State (22-12) will face No. 4 seed Wichita State at Madison Square Garden in New York on Tuesday.

Alex Marcotullio missed two 3-pointers in the final six seconds of overtime that would have forced a second extra session. Michael Thompson scored 18 points and Marcotullio added 16 for Northwestern (20-14), which shot 10 of 39 from 3-point range. Drew Crawford scored 14 points and grabbed six rebounds.

DeAngelo Casto, who was reinstated hours before gametime after being suspended Tuesday for a violation of team rules, finished with 11 points and eight rebounds for the Cougars. Brock Motum scored 11 of his 13 points in the first half, and Reggie Moore and Faisal Aden added 11 apiece. Klay Thompson grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds.

Northwestern’s John Shurna forced overtime when he scored on a goaltending call with 4.2 seconds remaining which tied the game at 64.

Washington State had a chance to win with 0.2 seconds left, but Abe Lodwick missed two free throws.
