Nasir Robinson posted 15 points against West Virginia for the second time this month, and Brad Wanamaker had 11 points, eight assists and seven rebounds as No. 6 Pittsburgh topped the visiting Mountaineers, 71-58, on Thursday night.

Freshman Lamar Patterson added a season-high 11 points and senior Gilbert Brown also had 11, rebounding from a season-low three in Saturday's 60-59 loss at St. John's, to help the Panthers (25-3, 13-2) close in on the Big East regular-season title. Pitt has a two-game lead over Notre Dame with three to play.

Casey Mitchell delivered 22 points off the bench for West Virginia (17-10, 8-7), which grabbed a 31-30 halftime edge.

But the Panthers dominated the second, finishing 27 of 47 (57.4 percent) from the field and creating assists on 23 of those buckets.

It was a far cry from the thriller the teams played at Pitt last season, when the Panthers outlasted WVU, 98-95, in three overtimes.

Pitt had scored 42 points in the paint in their first meeting this season to win at West Virginia, 71-66, on Feb. 7. The Mountaineers dropped to 5-6 over their last 11 games.

Pitt was without forward Talib Zanna, who broke his thumb earlier Thursday.
