Jeff Ledbetter scored nine of his 14 points during a key second-half sequence to help host Idaho upset No. 17 Utah State 64-56 on Wednesday.

Deremy Geiger scored 12 points and Kyle Barone had 11 and 10 rebounds as Idaho (14-10, 7-5 Western Athletic) ended the Aggies’ 17-game winning streak, which was the third longest in the nation.

Utah State (22-3, 11-1) was just 5 of 28 from 3-point range as its 25-game regular-season WAC winning streak was snapped by the upstart Vandals.

Idaho led 43-42 midway through the second half before Luiz Toledo scored on a lay-up to start an 11-4 run. Ledbetter followed with back-to-back 3-pointers and then hit three free throws to culminate the spurt that gave Idaho a 54-46 lead with 5:37 remaining. Ledbetter finished 2 of 12 from the arc.

Two free throws by Landon Tatum stretched the lead to 56-47 with 4:17 left and Idaho held off the Aggies to snap an 11-game losing streak to Utah State. Idaho’s last victory over Utah State was Dec. 23, 2004.

Brockeith Pane scored 14 points and Tyler Newbold had 12 for the Aggies.

Utah State’s Tai Wesley had 11 points and 10 rebounds before fouling out. The WAC Player of the Year candidate played with a mask protecting a broken nose suffered in practice earlier this week.
