Joe Trapani led the way with 14 points and nine rebounds as Boston College held on for a 58-56 victory over visiting Virginia Tech on Saturday.

Reggie Jackson added 10 points and four assists for the Eagles (15-8, 5-4 ACC), who snapped a three-game losing streak. Boston College has plenty more work to do to get off the NCAA Tournament bubble, with trips to North Carolina, Clemson and Virginia Tech remaining in the final month.

Jeff Allen scored 25 points for the Hokies (15-7, 5-4), who had won five of their previous six and have their own NCAA Tournament dreams to sort out.

The Eagles stymied Virginia Tech on defense in the first half, holding it to 30 percent from the field to take a 27-24 edge into the break.

Boston College maintained that slim lead throughout most of the second half until Malcolm Delaney’s 3-pointer with 5:35 left put the Hokies on top, 49-48. But Jackson and Trapani responded with back-to-back 3-pointers to put the Eagles back in control.

Delaney would bring Virginia Tech within a basket twice in the final two minutes but could not get his team over the hump. He missed the front end of a one-and-one with 24 seconds remaining and had a layup attempt blocked by Trapani late.
