Wake Forest had been dominating the series with Richmond and had won the last 17 meetings before Wednesday. Justin Harper scored 20 points and grabbed 13 rebounds and Dan Geriot added 17 points to help the Spiders end the streak.

Travis McKie scored 19 points for Wake Forest (6-7).

Richmond (11-3) had already beaten Purdue, Arizona State and Seton Hall this season and added another major conference victim Wednesday by pulling away in the second half.

The Spiders led 36-33 at the break and the game was tied, 54-54, when they finally pulled away. Anderson was the key as he scored eight points in an 11-0 run that gave Richmond a 65-54 lead with just over 10 minutes to play.

From there the Spiders held the Demon Deacons at bay to win their third straight and fifth in six games.
