Jeff Robinson scored 15 points and Herb Pope added 12 points and 13 rebounds as Seton Hall outlasted South Florida, 64-55, in the Big East opener for both schools.

Five players finished in double figures for the Pirates (7-6, 1-0 Big East), who held the Bulls to 1-of-10 shooting from beyond the arc.

Both teams shot under 40 percent in the first half but Seton Hall managed to convert its last four field goal attempts, taking a 26-24 lead into the break on Jordan Theodore’s jumper with three seconds left.

Pope, who got two quick fouls and did not score in the first half, took over in the second and controlled the paint. He hit four straight free throws with under three minutes left to keep the Pirates clear.

Neither South Florida (6-8, 0-1) nor Seton Hall figures to be battling at the top of the Big East this season but both still entertain postseason dreams. The Pirates have a rough stretch over the next two weeks with four of six on the road and the two home games against No. 5 Syracuse and No. 9 Georgetown. The Bulls get No. 4 Connecticut, No. 8 Villanova and No. 20 Louisville over the next three.
