Kevin Jones scored a team-high 15 points to lead four Mountaineers in double figures. Darryl Bryant scored 12 points, and John Flowers and Jonnie West each scored 10.

The Mountaineers (7-2) won for the fourth time in five games, holding the 11th-highest scoring offense in the country 22 points below its average.

West Virginia was the team struggling on offense in the first half. The Mountaineers were down 19-9 seven minutes in and found themselves down 34-23 at halftime. But the Mountaineers clamped down in the final 20 minutes, surging back to take a 52-50 lead on Jonnie West’s 3-pointer with under nine minutes left.

Truck Bryant’s 3-pointer with under 2:30 left pushed the Mountaineers’ advantage to 63-59, and West Virginia held on as the Duquesne’s T.J. McConnell missed a potential game-tying 3-pointer at the buzzer.

McConnell scored a game-high 18 points for the Dukes.

West Virginia returns home to face Cleveland State on Saturday. The Dukes play the second game of a five-game homestand Saturday against IUPUI.
