Boston College almost threw away a double-digit lead but managed to hang on for an 88-86 victory over Providence in a non-conference matchup on Wednesday.

The Eagles led 42-31 at the half and the cushion proved to be just enough to survive a 55-point second half by the Friars..

Luckily for Boston College (7-2), Reggie Jackson was there to bail it out with another big game. Jackson entered Wednesday leading the Eagles in scoring at 18.8 points per game. He went for 26 against Providence, shooting 9-of-12 from the field, including 4-of-4 from behind the arc.

Josh Southern scored 16 points, Joe Trapani added 14 and Biko Paris 12 for Boston College, which has won four straight.

Providence (9-2) battled back and cut the deficit to 87-86 with two seconds to play on a 3-pointer by Duke Mondy, but the Friars were unable to keep their five-game win streak alive.

Marshon Brooks scored 28 points for the Friars and Vincent Council added 13 but was just 4-of-16 from the field.

Boston College has now won three straight over its former Big East Conference rival.
