It won’t be easy for UCLA to get over this one. The Bruins were mauled 66-57 at home to the University of Montana in Pauley Pavilion in Los Angeles on Sunday. The Grizzlies, members of the Big Sky Conference, beat UCLA for the first time in school history and are now 1-4 against the Bruins.

Montana (4-3) has lost to Nevada, Utah and Portland this season but did qualify for the NCAA Tournament last season. UCLA (3-4) is struggling to regain the form that helped it win 12 national championships. The Bruins appeared on track after playing No. 4 Kansas to a close 77-76 loss on the road. The Grizzlies, however, were too much.

UCLA trailed by just six, 32-26, heading into halftime. The margin was the same with 13:57 remaining in the game with the score at 39-33. The bear fight grew ugly from there. Montana went on a 17-6 run that essentially ended the game.

The Grizzlies were led by Will Cherry, who finished with a team-high 28 points. Brian Qvale added 13 points with 10 rebounds.

UCLA guard Malcolm Lee wasn’t enough. He netted a team-high 13 points, and only two other players had more than seven points.
