Chase Tapley scored 14 points, and Malcolm Thomas had 12 points and six blocks as No. 19 San Diego State defeated visiting Saint Mary’s 69-55 on Wednesday.

The Aztecs (7-0) held Saint Mary’s to 35.5 percent shooting as the Gaels (6-2) scored 35 points below their season average.

Rob Jones scored a game-high 17 for Saint Mary’s, including five 3-points baskets. Matthew Dellavedova added 15 points.

Tapley made 6-of-9 field goal attempts, while Thomas hit 5-of-8 shots. Overall, the Aztecs shot 42.9 percent from the field.

San Diego State began the game with a 14-2 run and led comfortably most of the way. The Aztecs’ largest lead was 55-35 midway through the second half.

San Diego State overcame star forward Kawhi Leonard's season-low six points on 3-of-11 shooting.

Saint Mary’s leading scorer Mickey McConnell had two points on 1-of-7 shooting.
