Trevor Gaskins scored 24 points and Chris Warren added 19 to lead Mississippi to an 84-71 win over Penn State on Friday night, sending the visiting Nittany Lions to their first loss.
Mississippi (3-1) led 40-34 at halftime and increased the lead throughout the second half to record the win.
Talor Battle led Penn State (4-1) with 26 points and sank 5-of-8 3-pointers. David Jackson scored 17 and Jeff Brooks added 15 as Penn State shot 23-of-52 from the field.
Mississippi's 3-point shooting was the key to the game. The Rebels hit 13-of-29 shots from the arc, including six by Gaskins. Mississippi hit 27-of-52 shots from the floor.
