Iowa built a big lead early and cruised to a 68-40 home victory against Louisiana-Monroe on Tuesday at Carver-Hawkeye Arena.

The Hawkeyes (1-1) opened the game on a 13-2 run and led 29-18 at halftime. Their lead was never smaller than nine points in the second half.

Forward Zach McCabe led Iowa with 12 points. McCabe was the only Hawkeye in double figures.

Melsahn Basabe added seven points and 11 rebounds for Iowa, and Cully Payne had seven points and seven assists.

The Hawkeyes shot 46.7 percent from the field and got 29 points from the bench, while the Warhawks (0-2) shot just 31.5 percent and got only nine points from their reserves.

Louisiana-Monroe was 3-of-16 from 3-point range and committed 25 turnovers.

Tommie Sykes had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead the Warhawks.
