Maryland pulled away from Seattle in the second half for a season-opening 105-76 win over the visiting Redhawks, Monday in the 2K Sports Classic benefiting Coaches vs. Cancer at the Comcast Center.

Jordan Williams, who lost 25 pounds in the offseason, had a monster game with 17 points and 15 rebounds for the Terrapins (1-0). Sean Mosely had a game-high 21 points, and Cliff Tucker added 16 points and 7 rebounds.

Seattle (0-1) hung tough in the first half and was tied, 27-27 with eight minutes to play before intermission. But Maryland picked up its defensive intensity, created some easy baskets and took a 10-point lead into halftime.

The Redhawks would not go away easily in the second half, though, and were in striking range, down only 10 with 11:30 to play. Maryland finally assumed control in the final 10 minutes and finished the game on an emphatic 39-17 run.

Seattle was led by Alex Jones, who came off the bench to score 20 points. The Redhawks shot just 3-of-16 (18 percent) from beyond the 3-point line.

The Terrapins out-rebounded Seattle 43-29 and had a 23-11 advantage in assists, but turned the ball over 29 times.

Maryland continues play in the 2K Sports Classic Wednesday, when Charleston visits. The Redhawks will try to bounce back Friday at South Florida.
