Malik Monk scored a season-high 39 points on 16-for-29 shooting as the Sacramento Kings outlasted the Minnesota Timberwolves for a 124-120 overtime win on Friday night in Minneapolis.

Domantas Sabonis added 21 points, 15 rebounds and eight assists for the Kings. Keegan Murray finished with 17 points, and Davion Mitchell scored 16 on 7-for-8 shooting.

Jaden McDaniels scored 26 points on 9-for-11 shooting to lead the Timberwolves. Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 19 points, and Rudy Gobert posted 16 points and 16 rebounds.

Sacramento outscored Minnesota 9-5 in overtime to secure the victory. Monk hit a pair of 3-pointers during the extra session to lift the Kings.

Timberwolves top scorer Anthony Edwards left the game in the third quarter because of what the team terms personal reasons. He did not return. Edwards finished with 11 points in 19 minutes.

The score was tied 115-115 at the end of regulation.

Monk had a chance to make a game-winning 3-pointer in the final seconds of regulation, but tight defense from McDaniels prompted an airball.

The Timberwolves had 2.2 seconds left to try to draw up a game-winning play on the other end of the court, but Towns missed a 3-point attempt to send the game to overtime.

Minnesota opened the fourth quarter on an 11-2 run to even the score at 93-93 with 9:54 to go. Naz Reid made a 3-pointer and converted a three-point play during the surge.

The teams traded leads in the final five minutes.

Sacramento was up 91-82 at the end of the third quarter.

Gobert made a driving layup to pull the Timberwolves within 81-79 with 2:20 remaining in the third.

Monk made a basket on the next possession for the Kings, who closed the period on a 10-3 run.

The Kings led 60-59 at the half.

Minnesota got off to a slow start for the second game in a row. Two nights after falling behind 14-0 against the Memphis Grizzlies en route to a win, the Timberwolves trailed 15-2 after the first 3 1/2 minutes against the Kings.
