Memphis trailed 25-20 at the end of the opening quarter despite a strong start by Williams, who had 13 points and five rebounds.

The Grizzlies cut into the lead in the second quarter and moved ahead 37-35 on GG Jackson's trey with 5:36 left in the half. Jackson had 12 points at the half for Memphis, which held a 51-47 advantage at intermission.

Both teams played short-handed due to multiple injuries. Portland was without Scoot Henderson (left adductor strain), Malcolm Brogdon (right elbow tendinitis), Shaedon Sharpe (lower abdominal surgery), Robert Williams III (right knee surgery) and Deandre Ayton (right hand sprain).

Blazers forward Jerami Grant scored five points before exiting in the second quarter due to right quad soreness.
