MIAMI -- For some, it may have no meaning that the Miami Heat won its seventh straight Christmas Day game.

To others including Heat coach Erik Spoelstra Miami's 94-88 overtime win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Friday afternoon represents a gift from the North Pole.

"Merry Christmas," Spoelstra said after his team won despite shooting just 39.8 percent from the floor. "We showed a lot of resiliency. We'll take this win."

Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry, meanwhile, would not argue about Miami's good fortune, especially after his team practically gift-wrapped this game in Heat red-and-black colors.

Gentry was upset his team generated only two points off of 18 Heat turnovers.

"In 28 years in the NBA," Gentry said, "I've never seen that."

Neither team played well offensively. Both teams shot under 40 percent, and combined for 37 turnovers.

The sloppy play overshadowed the big numbers put up by some skilled big men.

Heat forward Chris Bosh had 30 points and 10 rebounds and Miami Heat center Hassan Whiteside had eight points, 17 rebounds and four blocks. New Orleans forward Anthony Davis had 29 points, 15 rebounds and three blocks on 13-of-29 shooting.

Bosh's points were a game high and a season high. Whiteside had game highs in rebounds and blocks and also turned in his eighth straight double-figure rebound game.

And Davis, who was playing in his first Christmas Day game, carried his team for long stretches, especially during the first half when he had 20 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks.

But as good as Davis was overall, he was held to nine points, five rebounds and no blocks during the second half and overtime.

"Bosh was staying with me instead of helping a lot," Davis said when asked to explain what happened after halftime.

Davis, who ranks in the top 10 in the NBA in points, rebounds, blocks and double-doubles, missed a long corner jumper just before the regulation buzzer that could have won the game.

"That's why I get the big bucks to try to win games for us down the stretch," Davis said. "I had a good shot. It kind of slipped out of my hand. It had a chance to go in.

Bosh, who made 11 of 25 shots, said he enjoyed the challenge of matching Davis point for point.

"They go to him quite a bit," Bosh said. "He's quicker than on tape. His shooting ability is great. He's learned to come off screens. His jumper is improved. He's everywhere on the court.

"He was shooting in my face and making shots. Christmas Day against one of the best in the league, I wanted to return the favor."

The Pelicans had their two-game win streak snapped but are still a much improved team relatively speaking. After a 1-11 start, the Pelicans are 8-9 since.

Miami (17-11), which didn't trail until the fourth quarter, received a boost with the return of point guard Goran Dragic, who had missed the previous game due to a left wrist injury.

Dragic played 40 minutes and had seven points and six assists.

"I just ignored him," Spoelstra said in reference to the injury. "I didn't know what to expect. But it was great to have him back out there. The guys feel comfortable with him. I don't think he's 100 percent, but we'll see how he feels tomorrow."

Miami led 27-15 at the end of the first quarter. Among the highlights in the quarter were Whiteside's 11 rebounds - including five on the offensive glass and Davis scoring or assisting on all of New Orleans' points.

New Orleans closed its deficit to 42-38 at halftime, but Miami pushed its lead back up to 11, closing the third quarter with a 63-52 advantage.

The Pelicans caught up in the fourth quarter by shooting 57.9 percent from the floor when reserve forward Ryan Anderson scored 12 of his 18 points.

Heat guard Dwyane Wade finished with 19 points, but this was far from a work of art as he made just 7 of 20 shots. His numbers looked even worse after four quarters -- 6-of-17 from the floor, 1-of-5 on free throws, three turnovers and minus-nine while he was on the court.

"In this league, you've got to win the pretty ones, and you've got to win the ugly ones." Wade said.

NOTES: Heat G Tyler Johnson (shoulder) sat out and hasn't been injury free since Dec. 9. But he responded well to Thursday's practice and is nearing a return. ... Heat F Josh McRoberts (knee) missed his eighth straight game. ... Pelicans C Alexis Ajinca, who has been battling a calf injury, was on the active roster but did not play. ... Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry coached the Heat in 1994-95, posting a 15-21 record. ... The Pelicans also have two ex-Heat players - PG Norris Cole and G Toney Douglas.
