Wizards 96, Magic 80: Marcin Gortat recorded 14 points, 14 rebounds and three assists as Washington defeated visiting Orlando for the eighth straight time.

Rasual Butler scored 15 off the bench and Nene contributed 12 of his 14 points in the first half for the Wizards, who have won two in a row after a five-game losing streak. All-Star John Wall chipped in with nine points, 10 assists and 10 rebounds while Drew Gooden scored 10 for Washington, which survived 22 turnovers.

Evan Fournier led the way with 18 points off the bench and Nikola Vucevic scored 14 to go along with eight rebounds for the Magic, who have dropped 12 of their last 13 contests. Victor Oladipo scored 13 while rookie Elfrid Payton added 11 points, a season-high six steals and five assists for Orlando, which is 0-4 against the Wizards this season.

Nene scored 10 to help Washington build a 12-point lead early in the second quarter and the Magic whittled the deficit to two before Wall capped a 6-0 run with the layup for a 43-35 edge at intermission. Wall, Garrett Temple and Paul Pierce drained consecutive 3-pointers early in the second half during an 11-0 burst that pushed the lead to 17.

Vucevic scored 10 in the third quarter as Orlando closed within 65-54, but Gooden had five as the Wizards recorded the final nine points of the period to increase the lead to 20. The Magic got as close as 88-78 after a Vucevic basket with 2:17 to go, but Gortat hit two free throws and Gooden made a 3-pointer to end the threat.

GAME NOTEBOOK: Orlando F Tobias Harris (sore right knee) and Washington SG Bradley Beal (sore toe) – the team’s second-leading scorers – both sat out the contest. … The Magic went 0-of-11 and the Wizards 0-of-7 from 3-point range in the first half. … Washington F Kris Humphries scored six points before leaving late in the first quarter with a sore lower back, sustained when he fell to the floor after tangling with Orlando C Dewayne Dedmon on a rebound.
