Pistons 114, Rockets 101: Kentavious Caldwell-Pope scored a career-best 28 points and made six 3-pointers and D.J. Augustin added 28 points and a season-best 12 assists as host Detroit defeated Houston to snap a four-game losing streak.

Greg Monroe contributed 19 points and 12 rebounds and Andre Drummond had 11 points and 16 rebounds for the Pistons, who halted a seven-game skid against the Rockets. Kyle Singler added 14 points and Anthony Tolliver scored 12 off the bench.

James Harden had 26 points and nine assists and Donatas Motiejunas added 21 points for Houston, which had a four-game winning streak snapped. Trevor Ariza scored 15 points but Josh Smith, cut by the Pistons last month, had just seven points on 3-of-11 shooting.

The Rockets scored 19 of the first 25 points in fourth quarter and pulled within 92-88 on a basket by Motiejunas with 5:58 to play. The Pistons held off the charge and two free throws by Augustin made it 104-94 with 1:40 remaining. Tolliver’s three-point play, plus Augustin sinking a technical called on Houston coach Kevin McHale, increased the margin to 109-96 with 1:20 to play.

Detroit led by as many as 15 in the first half before settling for a 59-46 lead at the break. The advantage increased to 86-65 later in the third quarter before the Rockets rattled off the next 14 to trail by seven on Harden’s 3-pointer with 8:38 remaining.

GAME NOTEBOOK: The double-double was Monroe’s 14th of the month. … Houston C Dwight Howard (knee) sat out his fourth consecutive game. … Detroit was 22-of-35 from the free-throw line.
